There is very little published information on the care of Pilea peperomioides, let alone anything written by botanists or horticulturists.

Our care is based on our personal experience, housing these plants for the last few years including lots of trial and error. With our first collection, information given to us by the nursery I found my babies just didn't fit these plants and they were looking very sad, so it was time to experiment with my care and mix it up.

The plant is native to southern China and typically found growing like a vine along the forest floor. It's exposed to cooler temperatures and this promotes growth in the warmer months.

To care for my P.peperomioides at home has been full of trying different positions and watering regimes to start with.

What I have found works best for my Pilea peperomioides:

- North East/East position in the window with afternoon sun (ours is slightly filtered by a few tall trees)

- Cactus/well drained soil, but keep in nursery pot after purchase for a couple of weeks while your plant aclimatises to it's new environment.

- My pots (shown above in picture) don't have drainage holes, so I water approximately 50-60ml once every 7-10 days.

- I rotate my plants a couple of times a week.

What doesn't work:

- overwatering

- dark spaces

- dense soil

- oversized pots

Please note, this is what I have found to work for me, each home has a different temperature and climate - so you may have some trial and error too.
